Shades of Herbert’s Dune

Some of the most stunning insect photography I have ever seen. If you find bugs disgusting or scary, this site is not for you. On the other hand, these photos show us how colorful, complex, and detailed nature can be.

Art for Art’s Sake

RapunzelI’m always amazed at people’s creative talent, especially in the beaux-arts, since I can barely draw a stick man. But to create something breathtaking, knowing its days are counted, may be the most selfless act an artist can make. Sure, he or she is admired, but for a short time only. Most artists, painters, sculptors, and surely writers, create for themselves, and for others, but also to be remembered, for a bit of immortality. But some create only for the first two reasons. These artists, such as those in the Harrison Hot Springs Sand Castles in BC, or the Ice Carvings of Winterlude in Ottawa, ON, perform for the love of it, and often in harsh conditions. As I said, amazing.

Seamless pictures

LibraryReminiscent of Escher’s ink drawings, Rob Gonsalves’s Seamless pictures are a fascinating mix of reality and dream; they defy perception and perspective, as well as form and contrast. Very cool.
